From my studio, I look out onto a feeding spot for garden birds.
That’s where he landed for the first time: the great spotted woodpecker.
Since then, he’s returned to the same place regularly. Watching him so often allowed me to observe his posture, colors, and character in detail — and that’s exactly what this painting reflects.

I painted him in oil, with great attention to detail. The background is dark, with a subtle red glow shining through. This enhances the red in his plumage, making it stand out more vividly. The contrast between black, white, and red gives the piece both strength and energy.
