I love to paint a bit unusual birds. And that includes of course the Ground Hornbill. With its long, slightly prehistoric beac and its large throat pouch which in this case is also bright red.

Although I don't often use the color red in my paintings, in this case it really appealed to me in the bird. I emphasized this even more by using these colors for the background as well.

• The linen is mounted on aluminium stretcher bars.
